Juventus may just have something to say about that, however. The Bianconeri are craving their first appearance in the Champions League final since 2003 and a first success since 1996 - and what better way would there be for the likes of Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo to cap off their illustrious careers than to lift Europe's most prestigious trophy? Although neither have any immediate plans to call it quits after this season, a Champions League success would at least force them to consider their options
The prospect of an El Clasico derby in the Champions League final may be too seductive for some to pass up: Real Madrid v Barcelona; Cristiano Ronaldo v Lionel Messi; 20 combined final appearances and 14 triumphs in Europe. The storylines write themselves. A 2-1 first leg defeat is hardly insurmountable, and would have to be considered a positive result for Los Blancos, courtesy of Ronaldo's integral away goal. A second half Carlos Tevez penalty gives Juventus a leg up heading into the second leg, but you can be sure Real Madrid will leave it all out on the field this evening in an attempt to join their bitter rivals in next month's final in Berlin.
